Disclosure: This blog post contains affiliate links. In late February, I attended my first CURVEXPO New York to report on trends for plus size lingerie. Previously, I’ve attended CURVEXPO Las Vegas and other major retail tradeshows as a buyer. Therefore, I was familiar with what to expect as a plus size woman: lots of pretty things not made in my size. Armed with that awareness, I set out to find […]
For years, full bust bra wearers (roughly defined as people in sizes DD or higher) have talked about how few choices there are for beautiful lingerie in their size. I’m not just talking about bras that exist in a particular size, of which there are (usually) many, but about bras that feel modern and fresh and equivalent to their core size counterparts in terms of both construction and design. Adina Reay is one brand trying to bridge that gap.
Gabi Gregg has done it again. The new GabiFresh x Swimsuits for All collection is here, and, like the rest of the collective internet, I’m in love. This year’s theme is “New Year, Same You,” and I adore that tagline, especially during a season when people are actively being encouraged to dramatically change (or even loathe) their bodies. The idea that you’re perfectly and worth loving exactly as you are right now is one I can get behind, and I appreciate how Swimsuits for All is going against the metaphorical tide with a message I find refreshing.
Trusst Lingerie launched on Kickstarter in the Spring of 2015 and met its goal in 5 days. The bra was designed to “actually support” full-bust women by using an alternative to the underwire: a 3D-printed bra core called the BAST, which stands for Breast Advanced Support Technology. Trusst says their BAST is more supportive and more comfortable than a traditional underwire by reducing shoulder strain and, according to their website, “eliminating the pinching, poking, and discomfort commonly associated with underwires.” Their goal was to create a bra for women who hate underwire bras and find them uncomfortable. I was super excited for the opportunity to review it as I have a lot of varied thoughts on this concept.
For several seasons now, I’ve been enamored of Harlow & Fox’s gorgeous full bust lingerie. Crafted from sumptuous fabrics and exquisite laces, Harlow & Fox Director Leanna Williams pushes the envelope of what lingerie tailored for DD+ cups can be. I talk to so many people who believe lingerie for larger busts has to sacrifice glamour for fit and that any bra beyond a D cup must be plain, boring, and beige. Ms. Williams proves that there is elegant lingerie available in this size range, and I have no problems admitting I wish my bust was a little bit larger so I could take advantage of these brilliant pieces.
