Winter Lingerie Trend: Velvet Devoré Loungewear

Autumn/Winter 2017 saw an intimate apparel market inundated with velvet lingerie. While velvet, a plush, luxurious textile noted for its soft, warm "pile" is always a popular winter fabric, this is the first season I recall seeing it in practically every type of lingerie - from bras to knickers to robes to teddies to pajamas.

My favorite take on the velvet trend, at least for intimates, is devoré or burnout velvet. Devoré (from the French for "to devour") takes the dense lusciousness of velvet and lightens it up with strategically-placed sheer "burnt out" areas that create an almost lacelike interplay of transparency and contrast.

Devoré fabric has an old-fashioned opulence to it; it reminds me of opera coats and evening gowns (i.e. the kind of garments one would only wear on special occasions). What I love about velvet devoré loungewear is how it transforms such a richly tactile fabric into something that can be worn for everyday. After all, I'm a big believer in lingerie - especially loungewear - being a daily indulgence.

What is your favorite velvet devoré look from below? Would you try this trend?
