Hello, everyone!
My new book, In Intimate Detail: How to Choose, Wear, and Love Lingerie, actually came out last week, but I've been so wrapped up in media interviews and seeing people post their book selfies on Instagram, that I just now remembered I never made the official announcement to the blog! So here we are!
Your friendly neighborhood Lingerie Addict is officially a published author! Yay!!!
It is impossible to overstate how excited I am and how proud I am of this book. In Intimate Detail has been a true labor of love, taking almost two years from start to finish. But I can say with absolutely no reservations that this is the best possible book on lingerie I could have written, and that it's everything I wish I had known before starting my own lingerie blog.
I wanted to create the kind of resource you could turn to again and again, not just next week or next month, but a year from now or five years from now or ten years from now.
In Intimate Detail: How to Choose, Wear, and Love Lingerie consists of 152 gorgeously-illustrated pages sectioned into 7 chapters and 4 appendices. The book covers everything from the basics of shopping for bras and underwear, to how to shop for corset, purchase custom lingerie, discover your ideal wedding underpinnings, or buy a binder for the first time.
The watercolor illustrations were created especially for the book by the wildly-talented Sandy Wirt, an artist I found on Tumblr ages ago and personally requested to be my illustrator.
As I mentioned back in February, I chose watercolor illustrations because I not only wanted the book to feel like an indulgent, welcoming experience, I also didn't want to trigger any bad body feelings or dysmorphia - even accidentally - by using models or figure drawings.
After all, the entire point is helping people to learn about and appreciate lingerie. I want you to imagine yourself in this pieces, and not close yourself off to the possibilities simply because a model doesn't look like you or me.
It's hard to find the words to describe how incredibly happy I am right now. Like many bloggers, the thought of writing a book one day had crossed my mind, but to have had such an incredible publisher in Ten Speed Press (and also Harper Collins, my UK publisher) and such an amazing editor in Kaitlin Ketchum, who first asked me to write this book...I just can't help but feel extremely blessed and lucky.
From the very beginning, my editor and publishers have fully agreed with my vision of In Intimate Detail, on everything from the title (which I chose way back in 2016!), to the use of illustrations, to the appendices at the back containing information for folks who are usually underserved by the lingerie industry. I just can't imagine a better partnership or a more fulfilling experience for a first-time author.
You can purchase In Intimate Detail in bookstores near you right now. In the United States, you can call your local, independent bookstore to see if they stock it (or ask them to bring it in!).
You can also purchase In Intimate Detail at Barnes & Noble, Powell's, The Strand, and The Elliot Bay Book Company, among other places. And you can also order it online through Amazon, iBooks, IndieBound, and Penguin RandomHouse.
If you live in the UK (or one of the Commonwealth countries), you can contact your local bookseller or order from Amazon UK or Waterstone's. And if you don't live in North America, the UK, one of the commonwealth countries, or Europe, you can order from The Book Depository.
Thank you to everyone who's pre-ordered, emailed with a kind word, posted about the book on social media, or left a review on Amazon or Goodreads. Your support means the world to me. I am so incredibly excited for you to experience the magic In Intimate Detail for yourself.
