It's been a year of wild and crazy changes, and we're not done yet because I have a couple more in store for you before 2017 is over. One of the biggest (and, to be honest, scariest) is launching my Patreon.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the name, Patreon is a way to support creatives directly. It's based on the old patronage system where an individual might directly fund a painter, sculptor or poet to keep them creating. Many of the world's most famous works of art are a direct result of the patronage system.
The Lingerie Addict is launching a Patreon right now for one big reason: because TLA's independence is our most important asset. I want you to know I didn't make the decision to create a Patreon lightly. However, the more I write about lingerie and the more I see how our policies and coverage differ from what's "normal" in this industry, the more I realize we need to shift away from the traditional funding model - where blogs and magazine are 100% dependent (and therefore 100% beholden) to advertising dollars.
Especially with so much terrible news happening today, I feel it's more important than ever for The Lingerie Addict to be a place where people of any race, ethnicity, religion, age, size, or gender identity feel welcome. I believe spaces like what we have here and on the Lingerie Addicts Facebook Group - spaces where people can feel free to be themselves without harassment and censure - are both rare and vital nowadays. And I feel more invested than ever before in TLA's mission of helping to make lingerie something everyone can enjoy and feel a connection to...even if that connection is a pretty picture or two to take your mind off the cares of the world.
The Lingerie Addict Patreon has tiers ranging from $1 to $100, and please believe me when I say no contribution is too small. Every dollars gets reinvested right back into the site. You'll be able to directly contribute to the kind of content you want to see in the world, and with your patronage, The Lingerie Addict will be able to give you that content - both now and in the future.
