Plus Size Lingerie Review: Gothic Lingerie from Agashi by Christina O.
Note: This lingerie was purchased by The Lingerie Addict for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
The bandage/bondage trend continues to dominate my lingerie wishlist. For the most part, handmade luxury lingerie is inaccessible to me either because it’s not available in my size or it’s not in my price range. That’s where Agashi by Christina O. fills an important need. With panty prices starting at $20, harnesses starting at $35, and custom sizing available, Agashi checks off both of my accessibility criteria.
I have been eyeing Agashi for a while because I’m a sucker for anything caged and mesh. When I saw they were offering a Valentine’s Day Sale, I knew that was the time to jump on it.
If you are wondering why it’s July and you’re just seeing this review, there’s a reason. Handmade lingerie is decidedly not fast fashion. My order was placed in mid-February and arrived in early June. I didn’t hear any updates about my order until early June, but I did see multiple posts on social media saying that order processing was taking longer than usual because of demand. I'm guessing others also jumped on that sale.
While the garments were totally worth the wait and the now 8-10 week processing time is well-communicated both on the website and social media, if you have a special occasion you need a piece for, it’s something to be mindful of when ordering.
I ordered a XXL in the Sora Cage Bra (no longer available). The XXL is the largest size offered without ordering custom. Since I wear bralettes in a size 2X, I didn’t request any customization.
A week before my order shipped, I received a personal email from Christina O. asking me about my bust measurements, which I really appreciated. I gave her both my bust measurement and my bra size for reference (it was a very personalized approach you’re certainly not going to get from every brand).
I also received a second email with “Behind The Seams” images and an update saying my order would ship that week.
When I received the items, the packaging immediately caught my attention. The shipping envelope contained sparkly hearts on the outside and inside. I found my items wrapped in tissue paper with stickers featuring images from the Agashi website.
Inside the tissue paper, each item was wrapped in an individual velvet pouch. The packaging immediately signaled to me that there was attention to detail.
When I took both items out of their packaging, I definitely noticed the craftsmanship. Each piece looked like it was created thoughtfully. I tried the Nabi Panty first. The sizing goes by waist measurement, therefore I ordered the 40” based on my waist. This style was available up to a 44” waist.
I was nervous about the fit because my hip measurement is significantly larger, proportionally, than my waist measurement. I could have communicated this to Christina O. directly, but for some reason I didn't. However, when I put the underwear on, I saw my fears were not justified. The 40” was a perfect fit.
The Navi panty is a fully mesh, retro-inspired, high-waist men's style brief. They are the first panty I’ve ordered in a while that I didn’t have to pull up to achive a high-waisted fit.
In the front, they hit well above my belly button. In the back, they come up right under my back fat roll. I really liked that the back and sides were fully mesh and the front panel is double-layered so it’s not showing quite as much skin as the rest of the panty.
Although the Sora Cage Bra is sold out, I would recommend any of the other cage and harness styles. The hardware on this bra is extremely sturdy as is the quality of elastic. This is a piece I felt confident I could put on my fat body and know it would stand up to any movement.
It took me about 15-minutes to figure out how exactly to put the cage bra on, but once I did, I was in love. The straps are adjustable in multiple places, which again put me at ease.
When wearing the Sora Cage Bra, I couldn’t help but notice how much better it felt compared to the strapless bra from a major plus size retailer I wore underneath. Agashi's cage bra felt both sturdy and delicate at the same time. And it made me very conscious of the fit, quality and comfort elements utilized in their designs.
Overall, if you have the time to wait a few months for your products, I would highly recommend Agashi by Christina O. You can request custom sizing on their website, as necessary. It’s goth, it’s luxe, and it’s high-quality at a reasonable price point. For me, that’s certainly worth the wait.
