I've been aware of Sian Hoffman's work for quite some time, but she really caught my attention last spring. Her work really stands out to me, with a signature look which feels kinky and retro, and yet very relevant and very sexy.
It comes as no surprise, then, to learn that the image which caught my eye was shot by Tim Bret Day – known for his work with Agent Provocateur. The locations, styling, and lighting are polished, but there's also a sexy weirdness to them that really gives that high fashion feeling. Admittedly, sometimes my reaction to that style of fashion photography is, "What? Why?" In this case, the result creates more of a, "I'm not sure what's happening but I want to see more," feeling.
Sian Hoffman's work has been impressive since long before that particular shoot. Her best known design is probably her corset/girdle hybrid. This powermesh and satin longline style was reviewed by Karolina for this blog in 2011. It's got classic lines and offers moderate reductions with ease and comfort.
Given the bespoke nature of Sian Hoffman's work, little starting information regarding designs and pricing is on her site. Each photo is beautiful, but as with many editorial photos, it's a little difficult to really see the complexity and detail of the design it ostensibly showcases. However, accessories and corsets by Sian Hoffman, as well as her sister line, "The Model Traitor," are available from a few stockists. Xenses has a range of Sian Hoffman waspies, cuffs, and posture collars in two classic color ways.
What do you think of Sian Hoffman? Do you own any of her pieces?
