I have to admit, I am the kind of person who buys holiday gifts for herself as well as for others. Last year, I treated myself to some lingerie, including the Sheer Show Pantsuit from Mosh + Dottie's Delights. I'd been eyeing this piece for months, and a 20% off sale for Black Friday gave me the perfect excuse to splurge.
I love pretty much every piece from the Sheer Show collection - it's the perfect storm of retro, timeless, elegant, and naughty. The collection's pantsuit really takes the cake, though. I've always loved a good jumpsuit, and a palazzo leg. Make it in sheer black mesh and boom, lingerie-as-outerwear heaven. While I love the fluttering butterfly sleeves, I do consistently find myself wishing the neckline was a boatneck. I occasionally toy with the idea of altering it, which would have the advantage of making the piece easier to slip into. Style wise, my only other note is that the waist panel is really high. Even my longest high-rise panties don't meet it, instead showing an odd little strip of skin that breaks the lines of my styling.
This piece has gotten a fair amount of wear in the year since I bought it. Last year was the year of me styling various see-through lingerie-as-outerwear ensembles. Since I work in a corset shop, I've even taken the liberty of wearing it to work a couple of times, making quite an impression on my coworkers. I've worn it for art modeling, and of course, I've done a bit of lounging in it as well. While it may not be very easy to use the facilities in this thing, it is very easy to feel fabulous while wearing it.
When I placed my order, I was unsure of my size. I am an hourglass/pear shape, falling between the S and M on the size chart. I included my measurements with my order and was sent a S. The S fits like a second skin, hugging from bust through hips. The length is also perfect on me, both in rise and inseam. I'm 5'3", so if you're taller than me or particularly leggy you may find the hem a bit short. (Note: According to the comments below, the pant leg has been lengthened since I purchased mine.) This piece has no closures, so you really do climb in through the neck hole. It's a little snug and, the first time you do it, perhaps a touch nerve-wracking, but it works just fine.
The Sheer Show Pantsuit is available from Dottie's Delights for $138, as part of the Sheer Show collection designed in collaboration with Mosh. Given that it's handmade-to-order, I think the price is very fair. It's a lot of look for your money, too. I've even machine washed it (cold water, gentle, line dry). It's held up well through its many wearings. The raw hem gives me a bit of pause as the side seams therefore don't have any additional support. They aren't under any strain at the raw edge but sometimes an overlocked seam can start to unravel. (The hem itself is in no danger of fraying on this type of material.)
Despite a lead time of 3-6 weeks listed on the website, my order arrived much more quickly. I placed my order on the evening of the 1st, and received a package tracking number on the morning of the 18th. I had also ordered another piece for my partner, and it, too, fits like a dream. From the designs to the quality of fit to the quick shipping, I was really impressed with Dottie's Delights from start to finish. I would absolutely recommend treating yourself – or a loved one – to a piece from Dottie's Delights.
