Roughly a year ago, I shared Retrofolie's amazing art history corsets with TLA readers. This Montreal, Canada-based designer has carved out a truly unique niche for herself, and become a much in-demand corsetiere as a result. These corsets are not only extremely popular among the tightlacing and waist training crowd, they're also widely appreciated by the average lingerie lover looking for something a bit special as well. You don't have to be an artist or a seamstress to be impressed by the level of technical proficiency displayed in every single one of these pieces. Matching a pattern like this is not easy, yet Retrofolie makes it look effortless.
This year, Julianne Coriandoli, the designer behind Retrofolie, is moving slightly beyond the realm of art and into the world of science with her brand new galaxy corsets. I have to perfectly honest here... when I saw this, I almost cried. For a science and sci-fi geek like me, this is just the perfect melding of everything I love most in one beautiful garment.
The Retrofolie Galaxy/Nebula corset retails for approximately $300, and is available in waist sizes 18-26" (you'll want to subtract 4-6" from your natural waist to get your corset size). There are a nine different starscapes available, and I'm having quite a few feels about the Carima Nebula (Donna Troy costume, anyone?).
Of course, if galaxies aren't your thing, the classic art history corsets are still available, and in way more options/configurations than were available last year. I've included a few of the latest designs below, but I believe you can request custom work as well so long as the original painting is in the public domain.
