I've been eyeing the retro offerings from luxury loungewear designer Betty Blue's Loungerie forever, but they're a little out of my price range. However, when the classic peach satin range went on sale, I went a little crazy and picked up both this pajama set as well as the 1940's inspired robe. I'm so glad I did, because these pieces are even more luscious and comfortable in person.
I picked up the size XL, which were well within my measurements except for the bust measurement (which I maxxed out). I buy a lot of loungewear and this is a pretty typical sizing situation for me, but as you can see these pajamas look fine on and don't have any gaping buttons or other issues on me. I'm doing my best retro beauty routine impression to try and add some authenticity to the photos!
These pajamas are built with a high waist and a boxier top, which is very authentic to the 1940s. I do feel like they're ideally designed for someone who is taller than I am, but they're still incredibly comfortable and wearable. I suspect if you were a few inches taller than my 5'4" height, and had a longer torso than I do, they'd be perfect. There is a slimming v-shape built into the pants, with lots of flowing fabric in the legs.
What really sets this pajama set apart from the rest is the fabric. I think it's hard for consumers to understand why luxury lingerie costs so much - in part, luxury fabrics just cost a bundle per yard. This fabric both looks and feels incredibly expensive. The satin has a high sheen, the inner side of the fabric feels like a comforting blanket and it's nice and thick. I suspect lots of the cost of this set is in the extra yards of fabric that this flowing design takes, as well as a high cost per yard. That said, this set doesn't feel overpriced at all in terms of the materials and workmanship that have been put into it.
This is a medium weight pajama set, which is perfect for our warmer southern winters. It probably won't replace your favorite flannel pajamas, but it's a great option for sleeping and lounging in milder winter weather or the autumn. I'm so glad I splurged on these, as I'll happily wear them for years.
Betty Blues has added several new pieces to the peach satin collection this year, including this gorgeous nightgown and reversible bed jacket that I seriously covet. Some of last season's pajamas and robes are still left in the sale, so it's worth checking to see if your size is still around if you like these!
Have you tried Betty Blues Loungerie yet? What do you think of their loungewear?
