The recent flood of fabulous images celebrating the life of the always-glamorous Lauren Baccall got me thinking about how that iconic Old Hollywood look of the 1940s never goes out of style. Who doesn't want to sashay in satin like a starlet from the silver screens of the past? Betty Blue's Loungerie, who designs pieces for the inner starlet in many of us, is releasing a line of bridal lingerie perfect for pampering the vintage-loving bride.
You may remember getting a sneak peek of these bridal lovelies earlier this year. Betty Blue's Loungerie was one of the standouts at this year's Salon de la Lingerie. The popular 'Nell' line (the black slip and teddy was a lingerie lust pick earlier this year) have been crafted in ivory for the discerning bride. These Betty's Bridal pieces have a timeless appeal that makes them a wonderful investment to last for many years after the honeymoon is over. This well-edited collection which includes two robes, a slip, and a teddy are meant to take the bride from wedding day preparations to exotic honeymoon locales.
Betty Blue's robes are the ultimate in 1940s glamour. One style has the full sleeves indicative of the era. Shaping in the bodice is provided by darts in both front and back, providing a sleek look that hugs your curves. A wonderful piece for brides to indulge in while having their hair and makeup done on the big day. The other robe, shown above, has a daring plunge with lace insets that both conceal and reveal. I love how the lace looks a bit heart shaped from the front (another nod to love being in the air!) and comes to sexy points above a curved derriere in back. A sweeping skirt that only closes at the waist means this gorgeous robe dramatically floats around the legs while walking. What a fantastic way to make an entrance on your wedding night!
The slip from the collection is sweetly sexy and incredibly versatile. Worn to seduce or to sleep in during the honeymoon, this piece can easily be worn under your favorite dresses too (maybe that special going away dress you have planned?). The bodice gets its shape from simple seaming, allowing the lace to play a dramatic game of peek-a-boo. Stretch satin panels along the hips hug your curves and provide an interesting colorblocking detail. A flounce along the hem adds to its feminine charms.
The coordinating teddy has a plunge neckline that mirrors that of the lace inset robe. The split V straps along the cups (another nod to vintage styling) form a criss-cross design in the back which adds to the drama. Simple seaming follows the body's curves and provides shape. The satin sash ties at the waist, emphasizing an hourglass silhouette (and begs to be untied!).
Ethically and expertly crafted in the UK, these pieces will be available for sale next month. Just in time for those winter weddings being planned!
What do you think of the new Betty's Bridal collection? Would you splurge for special pieces for the honeymoon? Would you wear any of these pieces even if you weren't a bride to be?
