Jane Woolrich is a UK-based designer who started designing exquisite corsets 25 years ago. Since then her designs have evolved to include decadent silk gowns, robes, and chemises. Her recent collections are both theatrical and thoroughly romantic, with ruffles, sweeping trains, and enough appliqued lace to make a girl swoon.
Corsets fan out at the hips into short flounced skirts with underlying tiers of tulle that would make any prima ballerina jealous. Kicky bustles formed with layers of ruffled taffeta draw attention to the sliver of skin exposed by lacing. Rich gold appliqued lace, whether on dramatic black or pale blush, is a nod to baroque opulence.
Sumptuous silk gowns are cut on the bias to skim the body, floating effortlessly to full hems that have wonderful movement while walking. The design consideration on the backs of these gowns is exceptional, with lace-framed cutouts, corset-inspired lacing, and mermaid-style skirts with sheer chiffon gores or cascading ruffles.
To top off all of this perfection are gorgeous robes --- the likes of which are rarely seen in modern lingerie. With sweeping trains, dramatic flounces, attached capelets, sheer illusion cut outs, and intricate lace appliques, these chiffon confections are reminiscent of the glamorous dressing gowns on the silver screens of the 1930s. The following styles would create the ultimate honeymoon trousseau for the discerning bride.
Other striking pieces include silk and lace camisoles, richly hued, bare-there babydolls, and a delightful bra and bustle combo that is surely meant to bring out your inner showgirl:
