A couple of weeks ago, I saw the latest Marie Antoinette-inspired flick, 'Farewell, My Queen' which is based on the book of the same name by Chantal Thomas. Unlike most treatments of Marie Antoinette, which more or less cover her life from birth thru death, this particular movie (and the novel it's based on) focuses only on the tumultuous three days after the storming of the Bastille and is told from the perspective of a young servant to the queen.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I'm a sucker for a good costume drama. I can't get enough of the corsets, the silks, the laces, and the brocades. And though I well know how awful that period in history was for the average person, I'm still captivated by the dresses of the era. The attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship is something I never get tired of looking at, and it's simply unparalleled today.
While 'Farewell, My Queen' isn't my favorite Marie Antoinette movie, it did make me start looking for lingerie today that would reflect, in spirit at least, the worksmanship of that era. From bright colors to luxurious laces to sophisticated embroidery (using only the finest materials and best construction techniques, of course) I believe all the lingerie in this post represents some of the most beautiful in the industry.
What movies have you seen lately that made you start looking at lingerie in a new way? Anything inspiring?
