We’re only halfway through March, and I think La Perla’s latest ad campaign may already be a contender for the best of 2012. The photos are fresh, fashion-forward, and, of course, breathtakingly beautiful. Best of all, they pay homage to vintage editorials without actually becoming vintage editorials. Bravo, La Perla, bravo. Please, pretty please do more of this.

Today, I would like to talk about an item of apparel very near (no pun intended) and dear to me: sexy granny panties. Emphasis on the “sexy.” If the term “granny panties” doesn’t appeal to you, I suppose we can stick with “retro high-waist panties,” if we must. This enduring style smooths and accentuates curves; even in this age of ultra-low-rise jeans, thongs, and whale tails, it has a dedicated following. But what separates the “sexy” from the “granny”? What makes for the most flattering high-waisted styles? What should you wear them with? Where can you buy panties in this cut, or at least stare at luscious bombshells decked out in this modest yet figure-hugging style?

When I applied to De Montfort University for the Contour Fashion course, I was expecting to spend my time chained to a sewing machine, producing garments every five seconds ; I’ve always been a very practical and hands-on sort of person and making things has always been one of my favourite past times. When we began our illustration modules, I was a little apprehensive – accurate drawing has never been one of my strengths!

If you want to know what a first timer looks like at the end of her first lingerie trade show, this image says it all. I had a blast attending both Curve NYC and The Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase, but by the end of my trip I genuinely felt a little overwhelmed. Over three days I saw thousands of pieces of lingerie in all colors of the rainbow, talked with tons of designers, and tried to sort through what I’d seen for this article. Before we get started on the best pieces that I saw, I wanted to reflect a bit on what I saw of the full bust/plus size market there in general.
I look at a lot of lingerie..so much that after awhile, some of it begins to look pretty much the same. A molded cup here, some lace trim there, same old, same old. *yawn*
But this set…this set I haven’t been able to get out of my mind since I first saw it. It reminds me of everything I love, macarons and ice cream and corsets and vintage fashion.
The pale mint green color is perfect for spring, and the ecru lace trim adds that touch of elegance, class, and luxury high-end lingerie requires. I’m in love. Besotted, even.

My work days in January are long. During that month, New York is a flurry of activity as designers rush to put finishing touches on their Autumn/Winter 2012 collections. I’ve been one of them, regularly working 16 hours straight on revising samples, ordering trim supplies, and perfecting patterns Lola Haze™.
All this activity reaches an exciting crescendo at Fashion Week in February when designers unveil their new creations. This season I was invited to show a capsule presentation of Lola Haze™, for Fashion Week at Style 360, a series of fashion shows put on by Elle Magazine. A sponsor, Skyn by Lifestyles, was looking to collaborate with a lingerie designer, and I got to be the lucky one!
As of March 1, 2012, I’m instituting a temporary moratorium on accepting new social media clients. I’ve established several great business relationships in the last few weeks and because I’m obsessed with making sure my clients get the kind of individualized attention they deserve, I won’t be opening any new accounts for the next couple of months.
